Sociable and smiley

Quokkas are wallaby-like marsupials found mainly in the south west region of Western Australia, particularly Rottnest Island, an idyllic location 18 kilometres off the Perth coastline. About the same size as domestic cats, furry quokkas are extremely sociable animals blessed with a cute, smiley appearance that’s made them a popular subject for ‘selfies’ in the age of social media.

Happy quokka family

The coin portrays a ‘happy family’ of quokkas in a beachside location featuring a lighthouse and vegetation symbolising their Rottnest Island home. Included in the design is the inscription ‘QUOKKA’, a ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary, and the 2024 year-date.

H.M. King Charles III effigy

The coin’s obverse portrays the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, and the monetary denomination.

Authentication feature

The coin incorporates an authentication feature on the reverse. In the form of a micro-laser engraved letter, it is only detectable under a magnifying glass. Presentation The coin is presented in a protective acrylic capsule.
