Commemorating 200 years since Australia’s first Royal Agricultural Societies were established in Tasmania and New South Wales and the first agricultural show was held in 1822, the Royal Australian Mint is releasing two specially designed coins to mark the anniversary.

Agricultural shows in Australia have weathered wars, depressions, drought, product price slumps, and most recently, pandemics. Today, they are still the main representative of agriculture in contemporary society providing an important link between the city and country.

Nothing conjures the experience of an agricultural show like the sights and sounds of the ring and sideshow alley, the frantic thud of the woodchopping competition and the prized livestock and produce arrayed in the pavilions.
