The Treaty of Versailles which established the conditions of peace after the First World War will enter its centenary in 2019. For this historic occasion the Royal Australian Mint has struck a $1 al/Bronze uncirculated coin and a $5 fine silver proof coin.
The reverse of each coin is inspired by the 1919 Australian Peace Medal - Triumph of Liberty and Justice which was presented to Australian schoolchildren in honour of the occasion.
Among the 32 signatories of the treaty was the Prime Minister of Australia Billy Hughes. This marked the first time that Australian officials had participated in the negotiation of an international treaty.
