The Australia 2001 Millennium 1oz Silver Colour Proof Coin

Please note: This item is second hand and may have nicks, marks and or scuffs to the inner and or outer box that does not impact on the quality of the coin.

Taken from the era of the Egyptians the reverse design recognises the first people to accurately measure the solar year the basis for the modern calendar. The Sun on a gold insert and the morning star (Sirius) are shown rising above Cleopatra's Needle an obelisk which originally stood in the Temple of the Sun in ancient Heliopolis.

A colour satellite image of Earth completes the central design and is surrounded by winged sun disc images incorporating the cobra and vulture goddesses with the God Ra. Dieties around the outside are holding up the world.

This coin is housed encapsulated in a blue metallic presentation box protected by a grey/silver coloured cardboard shipper and accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.

In February 2002 at the World Money Fair held in Switzerland this coin won second prize in the 2001 'Coin of the Year' awards.
