The Royal Mint reduced the size of its ten pence coin, and the florin, a coin which represented the initial step towards a decimal system when it was first introduced in 1849.
The new 10p will continue in Christopher Ironside’s classic design but in a smaller and lighter size. A celebratory 50p was also introduced in honour of the UK’s entry to the EU.
