More than a year after her accession in 1952 Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in Westminster Abbey. The Royal Australian Mint marked the 60th anniversary of this occasion with a special coloured coin in 2013 which was distributed for circulation. The design features a stylised representation of St Edward’s Crown surrounded by circles including a purple coloured pattern the colour synonymous with royalty.
