2009 Australia Remembers Australian Service Nurses 20c
The Australia Remembers series recognises those who made history beyond the battlefields. In 2009 it celebrates Australian Service Nurses.
The 20 cent coin design perfectly captures a nurse in her personal effort to bring comfort and assistance to a wounded “Aussie Digger”, whilst upholding the highest traditions of the nursing fraternity.
Australian Service Nurses first served with Australian troops in the Colonial Military Forces in South Africa, during the Boer war and have since seen active service in both world wars, Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Rwanda, Bougainville, East Timor and more recently in the Gulf and Afghanistan conflicts.
